Our 2023 Season

FERRY ME BOATMAN: A TRIBUTE TO NED ROREM (1923-2022)

Our 2023 Season highlights music of two masters of classical music: Ned Rorem, Nantucket’s honorary composer of art song who passed away late last year, and Hungarian composer György Ligeti, one of the most influential composers of the 20th century post-WWII, whose 100th birthday is marked in 2023.

Season highlights include pianist Wesley Ducote in a recital of his own devising, combining Ligeti's devilish etudes with evocative works of Chopin, Debussy, Beethoven and Duke Ellington. Valerie Sly, Principal Horn of the Alabama Symphony, and Giancarlo Latta, violinist of the Argus Quartet, both return to Nantucket for Horn Trios by Brahms and Ligeti. Soprano and Nantucket native Greta Feeney will present what promises to be a personal rendition of Ned Rorem’s appropriately titled Nantucket Songs. We are also excited to be inviting several new musicians, including bassoonist Ben-Roidl Ward, Assistant Professor of Bassoon at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Other Nantucket natives will also be making special appearances, including cellist Ethan Philbrick and organist Isaiah Williams.
